What is Sleep Health?

In a nutshell sleep, health is simply defined as sleep and how it affects one’s overall health and wellness. Good sleep health not only means sleeping enough each night but also having a high quality of sleep.

Why is Sleep Health so Important?

Getting enough quality sleep not only helps protect your mental health but it can impact your physical health and overall quality of life. Sleep wellness plays a pivotal role in your health. Poor sleep can cause numerous issues like obesity, poor immune function, and depression. While good sleep can help with a range of things like learning, productivity, and energy levels. In today’s fast-paced, always-connected, and sleep-deprived world, our need for a good night’s sleep is more important than ever. Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has called inefficient sleep a public health epidemic and has a page dedicated to sleep health.

How could CBD help Sleep Health?

"CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep." Harvard Health Blog

The Endocannabinoid System and Sleep

"Researchers discovered that the endocannabinoid system plays a role in maintaining certain body functions, such as mood, appetite, sleep, and regulating circadian rhythms. Within the endocannabinoid system is a network of cannabinoid receptors in the brain and central nervous system. The two primary receptors identified are CB1 and CB2. Cannabinoids attach to these cells and have various effects. As far as how they may affect sleep, some research indicates that the cannabinoid CBD may interact with specific receptors, potentially affecting the sleep/wake cycle. Additionally, CBD may also decrease anxiety and pain, which can both interfere with restful sleep. By reducing certain symptoms, it’s also possible that sleep may improve."
